As many of you know, I am a frequent participant in Facebook, but THIS… I cannot post on Facebook because of the serious divide in our country today, but I wanted a place to be able to post what I want to say.  I am choosing to share my thoughts here, on my company’s website, instead of in a public forum like Facebook.  I believe in the concept of “We Before Me” and want to encourage more open hearts and less divisiveness in America.

I have been waiting for some time to have a candidate step up to the microphone who is intelligent, thoughtful, literate, eloquent, measured, experienced, honest, educated, balanced, fair, authentic – and most importantly, an ardent believer of God’s love and grace.  I found that candidate in Pete Buttigieg. He is the first candidate I have ever sent money to, wanted to get involved in their campaign, or ultimately felt was the right person to lead our country into the future with a servant leadership mentality right from the start.

Are there other candidates who possess some, if not all of these qualities? There certainly are, but for some reason, HE, resonates with me in a way that no other political candidate has in our recent past. A little side note here, while he and I differ on issues somewhat, and while he never ran for President, I can say the same thing about Ret. Gen. Colin Powell. There is an authenticity about him that made him, at least in my mind, trustworthy. I feel the same way about Pete.

Since the first Democratic debates at the end of June 2019, I have spent a great deal of my time learning more about Pete. I have watched hours upon hours of video on YouTube about him and I have spent time on his website learning more about his positions. I have talked to others about him. And while I know it is still early at this point (7/4/19) in the race, I am only encouraged to want to know more.

It would be easy to say, “Well, Rick – OF COURSE you are going to vote for him because he’s gay.” Nothing could be farther from the truth. In fact, on some very obscure level, I almost wish he wasn’t gay so that particular part of his truth wouldn’t get in the way of having voters listen to him without it laying a veil of question over the amazing insight he brings to the table. The way in which he stands in his truth yet doesn’t use it as a primary platform component is refreshing. If asked, he addresses it head on and without any shame. All I can say is that is is incredibly refreshing and long overdue.

Finally, if you are a person who is looking for that candidate that you can call your own, someone who is not willing to allow for the status quo we’ve found ourselves in today in this country to continue, and someone who can help restore America’s credibility around the world – I invite you to take a look at Pete Buttigieg.

But regardless of who you end up supporting, even if it’s not Mayor Pete, I encourage you to get involved and begin having discussions like this one with your friends, family and colleagues. We have to get our country to a place where “again” is not part of our future, and our politicians are more concerned with the needs of ALL American’s as opposed to just raising themselves up.

In love and service (ILAS),

Rick Weaver
